The key components of this planning permission include areas of public open space with the provision of an equipped play area accessible to both new and existing residents, multiple pedestrian connection points to the surrounding network and a layout that ensures passive surveillance creating a safer and more attractive environment. A footway will be provided in between the proposed site access and an existing bus stop on Oak Place. A safe walking route will be provided to Lawfield Primary School via a 3m shared footway/cycle way to Conifer Road. Upgrades to footpaths through the centre of the site will provide a safe walking route to Mayfield Primary School, St Luke’s RC Primary School and Newbattle High School.

The engineering proposals take account of the existing topography and sensitive areas of the landscape.
