A major design award has been presented to Gladman Developments for its office development at Monkton Court at Hebburn.
The scheme won the Place Making Category in the South Tyneside Good Design Awards run by South Tyneside Council.
Merchant Court is a £13 million, 75,000 sq ft newly-built office scheme at Monkton South Business Park, offering offices from 1,035 sq ft to 25,500 sq ft. The buildings are set in attractive landscaped grounds with green spaces and on-site car parking.
In the courtyard stands an imposing metal sculpture called the “The Far Horizon”, from local artist William Pym, which is designed to reflect the local area’s connection with the sea and its entrepreneurial spirit.
The judges said: “The office buildings have been set out to create a series of attractive and substantially car free public places . . . the buildings and landscaping combining to create an attractive outdoor environment for employees and visitors . . . This project demonstrates the benefits of place making in a speculative office development.”
